“If memory serves, there are 27 actors who appeared in both The Sopranos and Goodfellas.”

As long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to be in the movies. I wanted to write, direct, and act in them all at the same time just like Clint Eastwood. I was always into watching new movies and going to the video store with my parents. Watching the Oscars and the red carpet was a regular thing for my mother and I. I’ll never forget my first Martin Scorsese movie, Goodfellas. I was probably around eight years old the first time I had watched it, and I just knew there was something special about this movie. I absolutely loved the way they talked with their hands a lot and they could cuss you out with a hand gesture too! It was a whole experience, and I was enamored. Then came my obsession with him as I continued with Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Casino, Cape Fear, The Departed and Shutter Island. I’ll be turning thirty-eight this July. For thirty years I have idolized this man and held him up on a pedestal so high that he made me forget all about Clint and never looked back.

“Agree, that all Martin Scorsese films are like fine wine and stand the test of time, including “The Irishman” which will only get better and better with time.”

However, recently in an online Sopranos community, an interesting topic was brought to light. In an interview Martin opened up about how he felt about The Sopranos. Some were joking he wasn’t happy with the likeness of the actor they used to portray him. That triggered a memory of an article I had read on screen rant. He only watched one episode of the sopranos ever. and he couldn’t connect with the generation of today (then). I understand, in America, we get to do what we want, and we have choices and lots of options, right I get that. But why do I feel like I want him to like the Sopranos? I want him to be grateful for it, just as much as I’m grateful for Casino. Others in the community felt the same, as many started to chat and discuss the heated topic. DeNiro and Scorsese both claiming to never have watched the show? Some were just as confused as I was, and assumed Martin was a fan of the highly acclaimed show. Memes were posted about Robert DeNiro and Scorsese’s claims.

Martin Scorsese and Robert de Niro saying they never saw the Sopranos.

Sopranos Vibes @sopranos_vibes

During my investigative research I came across a video of Marty talking. He was laughing and seemed to be in good spirits and speaking positively about the show. I typically don’t get offended easily and mostly go unbothered in my daily life, but this really gets my cajónes in a bunch. How can someone who is supported by so many fans turn their back on those who respect him and aspire to be like him? Six regular Sopranos cast members appeared in the Goodfellas movie and were extremely intertwined in the New York/Jersey acting scene. I just find it completely odd that someone would say something like this. What do you guys think about the lack of respect coming from such a highly respected director. If David Chase and him were in the same room, what would he say to David? I would love to see how that would go down!

“Michael Imperioli said Martin Scorsese and David Chase make all cast members feel like they belong.”

“33 years ago today, ‘Goodfellas’, the iconic Martin Scorsese movie, was released in America. This classic mob movie has stood firm in the greatest test of them all. The test of time. It was also a great inspiration for ‘The Sopranos’ creator David Chase and many of the crew.”
